Iodoform is a preparation used for root canal treatment.
Indications: Iodoform is a component of some pastes for root canal filling. Long-lasting antibacterial, weakly anesthetic, dries exudate, inhibits bleeding, and does not irritate periapical tissues. It does not have antiseptic properties itself, and only after contact with the tissue, especially with serous or purulent secretions, it decomposes gradually, releasing free iodine.
Iodoform-containing pastes are used, inter alia, for:
- treatment of pulp inflammation in deciduous teeth combined with its devitalization;
- treatment of pulp gangrene in deciduous teeth;
- treatment of pulp gangrene in permanent teeth in adolescents;
- treatment of inflammation of the periapical tissues in permanent teeth with unformed and formed roots, accompanied by persistent exudate
