The preparation based on iron sulphate is used in pulpotomy procedures for vital pulp amputation in deciduous teeth.
The preparation is also used to stop minor bleeding caused during dental procedures.
The gel has a hemostatic effect: in contact with blood, it forms protein-sulphate complexes that close the openings of blood vessels. Its advantage is quick and easy application: the preparation is rubbed into the pulp stumps. Then, in the case of amputation of the vital pulp, after removing the gel from the chamber (air-water stream), zinc oxide with eugenol is applied and a final filling is placed.
The preparation can be used as an agent to inhibit bleeding from oral capillaries during dental procedures. Strongly rubbed gel into bleeding tissue creates plugs of coagulated blood in the capillary openings. By rubbing the gel in, the part of the curd protruding above the rim of the vessel is cut off, creating a cork permanently closing it. The tissues are cleaned with a powerful stream of air-water spray, which allows the removal of clots, remaining gel and checking the effectiveness of stopping the bleeding.
